SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING IN SPAIN

Spain’s not all about sun, sea and sand. It has some of the best snow resorts in Europe. Excellent skiing and snowboarding, comfortable cosy chalets or hotels, fabulous snow facilities and fantastic scenery. And of course plenty of restaurants and bars for that après-ski wind-down time!

Valdelinares, near Teruel
www.valdelinares.com
Located in the province of Teruel, only ½ hour’s drive from Valencia, Valdelinares is a fantastic location to ski. Near enough to travel to from the Javea region for a day’s skiing, or perfect for a weekend or longer break. With green, blue and red runs, there’s something for everyone, from complete beginners to advanced skiers and boarders. Half day adult passes start at €24.50. If you need to hire your equipment prices start at as little as €18 per day for everything you need to head for the slopes.

If you live on the Costa Blanca and have always wanted to learn to ski, or want to practise your skiing and snowboarding skills Valdelinares is the place to go. Classes start at €29.50 for an individual lesson, and are less for groups. Visit the ski school page on the website above for booking telephone numbers.

There’s also plenty to see and do for all the family, including a visit from Father Christmas on 24 December, and the famous Spanish 3 Kings parade on 5 January.

So if you want to get away for Christmas or the New Year and are looking for a late booking visit the above website and see what’s on offer. You’ll certainly experience a really different ‘holiday’ in Spain!

Sierra Nevada, Granada
www.cetursa.es
A popular ski resort for professionals and amateurs. The Sierra Nevada offers a great choice of slopes, hotels and restaurants and is approximately a 5 ½ hour drive from Javea.

There are plenty of places to stay, many with special offers on at the moment. You can choose from hotels and chalets right on the slopes, to more rural lodgings on the outskirts of the main skiing areas.

There are numerous friendly restaurants and bars, where a roaring log fire and a glass of something greet you after a hard day on the pistes!

There are ski and snowboarding schools for children and adults, and all are geared to your level.

If you don’t have your own ski equipment it’s for hire at very reasonable prices, starting at €22 per day for an adult’s boots, skis and poles and €16 for children. Want to hire a board? €24 per day for a board and boots. Prices get cheaper per day the longer you hire. For some real winter fun, the Sierra Nevada is a region of Spain not to be missed.

Andorra www.grandvalira.com
It’s not too late to celebrate Christmas in the snow! Andorra is a 7 hour drive from the Javea region and there are still plenty of places left to stay.

There are ski schools for children and adults, or you can do your own thing. Equipment is for hire at very reasonable prices and ski pass prices start at €32 for an afternoon. The longer you hire for the cheaper it gets,

Accommodation is plentiful and you can even stay in a real igloo hotel for a truly unique experience.

Many hotels offer ski passes included in the price. It’s also worth looking here at this page for the latest special offers, which include accommodation and ski passes.

Once you’ve tired of the slopes (if that’s possible!) there’s plenty of shopping and relaxation, with sports shops, clothing, perfume, gifts, spas and plenty of bars and restaurants. There’s plenty of nightlife, with dancing and music to be found in many bars.

If you’re a real outdoor type why not get the Grandvalira Fanatics Annual Pass? This will give you discounts at plenty of places in the region and give you access to year round activities, including skiing, snowboarding, cycling and hiking. Visit the official website for more details:

You can also experience the beauty of the region on a guided night excursion, where you’ll see some of the most breathtaking views you’ve possibly ever seen.
